Čížek je český rodový název některých pěnkavovitých ptáků z podčeledi Carduelinae z rodu Spinus[1]. Dříve byli řazeni do rodu Carduelis – stehlík. Jediným druhem čížka, který se na českém území vyskytuje, je čížek lesní (Spinus spinus).

Taxonomie

Rodový název Spinus ustanovil Carl Ludwig Koch v roce 1816 na základě druhového jména „Fringilla spinus“, které použil Carl Linné v roce 1758 pro čížka lesního.

Druhy

Z dvaceti druhů rodu je 18 druhů domovem v Americe. Pouze čížek lesní se vyskytuje v Eurasii a zvonohlík tibetský v jihovýchodní Asii.
