Do soutěže mužské dvouhry na tenisovém turnaji ASB Classic 2016 nastoupilo dvacet osm hráčů. Obhájcem titulu byl český tenista Jiří Veselý, kterého v úvodním kole vyřadil Španěl Roberto Bautista Agut.
Vítězem dvouhry se stal osmý nasazený Španěl Roberto Bautista Agut, jenž ve finále zdolal amerického hráče Jacka Socka. Ten, po prohrané úvodní sadě, na počátku druhého setu zápas skrečoval. Americká světová dvacet šestka se potýkala v předchozích dvou dnech s virózou a za teplého a slunečného počasí byla na dvorci malátná.[1]
Bautista Agut si tak v probíhající sezóně připsal premiérové turnajové vítězství, které představovalo třetí singlový titul na okruhu ATP Tour a první od červencového MercedesCupu 2014.
