Asahi šimbun (japonsky 朝日新聞; [asaçiɕiꜜmbɯɴ]IPA) je japonský deník, který vychází od 25. ledna 1879 a je tak jedním z nejstarších deníků v Japonsku a celkově v Asii.[13] K červnu 2020 bylo vytištěno 5,16 milionu kusů v ranní a 1,55 milionu kusů ve večerní verzi.[2] Z hlediska nákladu je Asahi šimbun po Jomiuri šimbun druhým největším deníkem na světě. V případě digitální verze však zaostává za mnohými celosvětovými deníky, jako je například The New York Times.[14]

Deník vydává mediální konglomerát sídlící v Ósace Kabušiki gaiša Asahi šimbun-ša.[pozn. 1] Společnost mezi sebou vlastní zakládající rodiny Murajama a Ueno.

Dle mediální zprávy, kterou v roce 2018 zveřejnil Institut Reuters, má Asahi šimbun ze všech hlavních japonských deníků nejmenší důvěru veřejnosti. Důvěra však klesá i u ostatních hlavních deníků.[15]

Asahi šimbun je jedním z pěti největších japonských deníků, těmi zbylými jsou Jomiuri šimbun, Mainiči šimbun, Nihon keizai šimbun a Čúniči šimbun.[16]

Asahi Shimbun, First Issue of the newspaper, Front Page, January 25, 1879. This is the first issue of the Asahi Shimbun, which should be commemorated. The typeface of newspaper titles hasn't changed much. There were two types of newspapers published in the early Meiji era: Oshinbun, a large newspaper that discusses politics and the state, and Koshinbun, a small newspaper that publishes Ichii's events and novels with furigana. A small newspaper is a name given because the size of the paper is smaller than that of a large newspaper (about 1/3 of the current newspaper). The Asahi Shimbun also started as a small newspaper. The Asahi Shimbun gained a large number of readers immediately after its first publication, and by the 16th year of the Meiji era, four years after its first publication, it reached the highest daily circulation (about 20,000) in Japan.
