Bernard Anthony Harris (*26. června 1956 v Temple, stát Texas, USA) je lékař a americký kosmonaut. Ve vesmíru byl dvakrát.

Život

Studium a zaměstnání

Absolvoval střední školu Sam Houston High School v městě San Antonio (1974) a pak pokračoval ve studiu biologie na University of Texas. Po ukončení studia v roce 1978 pokračoval ve vysokoškolském studiu na Texas Tech. School. Studium lékařství zde ukončil v roce 1982.

Působil pak v NASA jako lékař výkumník. V letech 1990 až 1996 byl členem jednotky kosmonautů v NASA. Po ukončení kariéry kosmonauta pro NASA pracoval dál a také učil na texaské univerzitě.

Oženil se s Sandrou, rozenou Lewisovou.

Lety do vesmíru

Na oběžnou dráhu se v raketoplánech dostal dvakrát a strávil ve vesmíru 18 dní, 6 hodin a 8 minut. Absolvoval i jeden výstup do volného vesmíru (EVA) v délce 4,39 hodin. Byl 290 člověkem ve vesmíru.

STS-63 Mission Insignia

Designed by the crew members, the STS-63 crew patch depicts the orbiter maneuvering to rendezvous with Russia's Space Station Mir. The name is printed in Cyrillic on the side of the station. Visible in the Orbiter's payload bay are the commercial space laboratory Spacehab and the Shuttle Pointed Autonomous Research Tool for Astronomy (SPARTAN) satellite which are major payloads on the flight. The six points on the rising sun and the three stars are symbolic of the mission's Space Transportation System (STS) numerical designation. Flags of the United States and Russia at the bottom of the patch symbolize the cooperative operations of this mission.

STS-55 Mission Insignia

The official insignia of the STS-55 mission displays the Space Shuttle Columbia over an Earth-sky background. Depicted beneath the orbiter are the American and German flags flying together, representing the partnership of this laboratory mission. The two blue stars in the border bearing the crewmembers' names signify each of the backup (alternate) payload specialists -- Gerhard Thiele and Renate Brummer. The stars in the sky stand for each of the children of the crewmembers in symbolic representation of the space program's legacy to future generations. The rainbow symbolizes the hope for a brighter tomorrow because of the knowledge and technologies gained from this mission's multifaceted experiments. Each crewmember contributed to the design of the insignia.
