Chryzoberyl (Werner, 1790), chemický vzorec BeAl2O4, je kosočtverečný minerál. Název složen z řeckých slov χρυσός (chrysos) = zlatý a βήρυλλος (berylos) = beryl, které popisují barvu minerálu.
Původ
- magmatický – v žulových pegmatitech;
- metamorfní – vysokoteplotní svory, kontaktní zóny ultramafických hornin;
- sekundární – díky odolnosti vůči zvětrávání se hromadí v náplavech.

Krystaly mají tvar tabulek {001} nebo jsou krátce prizmatické podle [100]. Velikost krystalů do 22 cm. Na {001} rýhování rovnoběžné s [100]. Dvojčatění běžné podle {130}, vytváří buď srostlice ve tvaru srdce, nebo vícenásobná kontaktní a penetrační dvojčata dávají vzniknout pseudohexagonálním krystalům.
Vlastnosti
- Fyzikální vlastnosti: Tvrdost 8,5, křehký, hustota 3,7 g/cm³, štěpnost dobrá podle {110}, lom lasturnatý, nepravidelný.
- Optické vlastnosti: Barva: odstíny zelené, smaragdově zelená, žlutozelená, žlutá, modrá. Lesk skelný, mastný, průhlednost: průhledný až průsvitný, může být i opakní s měňavou inkluzí, vryp bílý. Žlutozelená luminiscence.
- Chemické vlastnosti: Složení: Be 7,10 %, Al 42,50 %, příměsi Cr, Fe3+. O 50,40 %. V kyselinách nerozpustný.

- cymofán – chryzoberylové kočičí oko – zlatožluté se stříbrobílou čarou

- This is a relatively large, VERY GEMMY AND TRANSLUCENT twinned crystal of chryoberyl, of incredibly sharp form! Most chrysoberyls twin as sixlings and thus have multiple terminations that, to me , distract the eye. This specimen, however, exhibits another form entirely, with the "ingrown" twinning resulting in a sharp crystal form without the usual flanges, to me much more appealing and symmetrical. The "classic" twins are on a different axis of the crystal growth, as well, and so the shape is totally different from this style which is actually more rare. This twinning allows for more sharp hexagonal form to be preserved, and they tend to be more gemmy. I am told these came out in the early 1970s. It has high luster, and better transparency in person than reflected here: really quite transPARENT in 2/3 and translucent in the rest. The crystal is complete save only the contacted bottom edge. Also, it has a beautiful golden-cognac color that GLOWS when backlit a bit more than we did for the photos. You can get the idea, I think. 3.8 x 3.3 x 1.4 cm

Cymophane is popularly known as cat's eye and like most stones the color changes some depending on the light source and the eye actually looks sharpest with very low lighting. With rotation, the color changes and the milk and honey effect is best under low or incandescent light. The two colors are yellow and light olive. In fluorescent light the color boundaries are less apparent. The eye is straight and sharp viewed horizontally and also straight when viewed vertically with the light source directly above
