David Hume Kennerly (* 9. března 1947, Roseburg)[2] je americký fotograf a fotožurnalista. V roce 1972 získal Pulitzerovu cenu za portfolio fotografií vietnamské války, Kambodže, uprchlíků z východního Pákistánu poblíž Kalkaty a boxerský zápas Ali vs Joe Frazier v Madison Square Garden 8. března 1971. Je bývalý hlavní oficiální fotograf Bílého domu během prezidentství Geralda Forda v období 1974–1977.

Životopis

Známé fotografie

Kennerlyho fotografie prezidenta Geralda Forda, jak se mazlí se svým zlatým retrívrem Libertym, je pravděpodobně jeho nejznámější fotografií z té doby.

Den před tím, než měli Fordovi předat klíče od Bílého domu nastupujícímu prezidentovi Jimmy Carterovi, Kennerly doprovázel Betty Fordovou kolem západního křídla při osobním loučení se zaměstnanci. Procházeli prázdnou kabinetní místností a na tváři se jí objevil šibalský pohled. „Vždycky jsem chtěla tančit na stole v Cabinet Room,“ řekla. Bývalá tanečnice školy Marthy Grahamové odhodila boty, vyskočila doprostřed stolu a zapózovala. Fotografie byla poprvé publikována o více než 15 let později v Kennerlyho knize Photo Op.[1]

Former White House photographer David Hume Kennerly appears at the LBJ Presidential Library on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 as part of the library's Vietnam War Summit. Kennerly won a Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the Vietnam War.

Kennerly participated in "The Power of a Picture" panel discussion about how powerful and poignant photography helped turn the tide of public sentiment against the Vietnam War. Also on the panel was Associated Press photographer Nick Ut, who also won a Pulitzer Prize for his Vietnam War coverage.

The LBJ Library's Vietnam War Summit continues through Thursday, April 28.
