Original caption: Richard Aldrich, well-known musical critic of the New York Times, has been commissioned a captain in the United States army. His work is of a kind which the war department does not advertise, but is illustrative of the fact that the arts and letters are contributing men who are helping the conduct of the war in unusual ways.
