Třída Godavari (jinak též Projekt 16) je třída fregat indického námořnictva. Fregaty jsou výrazným zlepšením předchozí třídy Nilgiri, která byla sama kopií britských fregat třídy Leander. Byly však vybaveny převážně sovětskou výzbrojí. Celkem byly postaveny tři jednotky této třídy. Ve službě byly v letech 1983–2022. Později byla postavena ještě druhá tříkusová série, označovaná jako třída Brahmaputra.
Stavba
V letech 1983–1988 do služby vstoupily tři jednotky, pojmenované Godavari, Ganga a Gomati. Postavila je indická loděnice Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) v Bombaji.

Konstrukce

Hlavňovou výzbroj představuje dvouhlavňový 57mm kanón v dělové věži na přídi. Za dělovou věží jsou umístěny čtyři vypouštěcí kontejnery protilodních střel P-15 Termit (v kódu NATO SS-N-2) a protiletadlové řízené střely 9K33M (v kódu NATO SA-N-4). Blízkou obranu zajišťují čtyři 30mm kanóny kompletu AK-630. K boji proti ponorkám slouží dva trojhlavňové 324mm torpédomety. Na zádi fregat je přistávací plošina a hangár pro dva vrtulníky. Nejvyšší rychlost dosahuje 27 uzlů.

The Naval Frigate INS Ganga will enter harbour under own steam post her last operational sortie on 27 May 2017. It will certainly be a nostalgic moment for the Navy, for the ship will be placed in the non-operational category commencing 28 May 2017, followed by decommissioning before the end of the year, after 32 years of glorious service.
The ship, commissioned on 30 Dec 1985 at Mumbai, and presently in her 24th Commission, is commanded by Captain NP Pradeep. Despite her vintage, she still retains her capabilities in all three dimensions of naval warfare. It is testimony to the resilience of the ship and her crew that she will sail into Mumbai flying the flag of Rear Admiral RB Pandit, Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet straight from a 45 day long active patrol in the Northern Arabian Sea guarding the nation’s maritime borders till her last operational day.
INS Ganga is also affiliated to the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) of the Indian Army, and has built this association over many years.Goa, India (Sept. 29, 2005) - A Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat assigned to the guided missile destroyer USS Higgins (DDG 76) transfers U.S. Sailors to the Indian frigate INS Gomati (F 21) for an exchange of sailors, during Exercise Malabar. Malabar is a joint Indian American exercise designed to bolster relations between our two countries and enable the two countries to work together against a common threat. This year’s exercise is the largest to date including two U.S. Destroyers, USS Nimitz and the submarine Santa Fe. 081020-N-1635S-004 INDIAN OCEAN (Oct. 20, 2008) The Indian Navy ship INS Godavari (F20) pulls away from the Military Sealift Command fast combat support ship USNS Bridge (T-AOE 10) after conducting a replenishment at sea. Bridge is participating in Malabar 2008, a bilateral exercise between the United States and India.
