Velký Manchester (anglicky Greater Manchester) je anglické metropolitní hrabství v Severozápadní Anglii. Vzniklo v roce 1974 a patří k nejlidnatějším v Anglii. Jeho rozloha je 1 276 km², což přibližně zahrnuje souvislou zastavěnou plochu Manchesteru a sídel v jeho okolí. Žije zde přibližně 2,87 milionu[1] obyvatel.

The coat of arms granted by the College of Arms to the Greater Manchester Council are described as the following:
Shield: Gules ten Towers three two three two all within a Bordure embattled Or. (Representing the ten cities and boroughs of the County.)
Supporters: On either side a lion Or each surmounted on the shoulder by a Roundel Gules that to the dexter charged with an open Book and that to the sinister charged with a French Horn proper. (The lions representing England, the book representing academia, and the French horn representing music and culture.)
Crest: On a Wreath of the Colours a demi Lion Or supporting a Staff proper flying therefrom a Banner of the Arms. (Another English lion bearing a simple banner of the arms.)
Motto: Ever Vigilant.The County Flag of Greater Manchester is composed of ten golden castles (arranged in rows of 3-2-3-2) on a red background, fringed by a golden border in the style of a castle battlement.
NB: This is the official flag of Greater Manchester, adopted by Greater Manchester County Council in 1974. Despite the Council's abolition, the County (and Flag) remain.
The ten golden castles represent both the urban landscape of Greater Manchester, and its division in to its ten metropolitan districts: Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Tameside, Trafford, Salford, Stockport, and Wigan. The red ground represents man-power and the county's red-brick architectural heritage, both legacies of Greater Manchester's industrial past. The embattled border represents the unity and shared future of the county, and its bold, vigilant and forward-looking character.
