Old limestone houses, some still covered with stones in Grohote on the island Šolta / Croatia / Adriatic Sea. Homes of this size come from the period around 1900, when the money of emigrants led to a construction boom on the island. During this time, most multi-storey houses were built. These homes are currently possesses a poor quality housing. They are heated in winter hardly. The timber roof trusses with the typical stone roofs is usually of inferior quality. A restoration is very expensive, so the islanders prefer to build new.
