rch for the Wabash Railway over the Hydro Power Canal, QueenstonDevelopment 226 TWELFTH ANNUAL REPORT OF THE No. 49 to the original alignment. A portion of the cost of placing the M.C.E. throughgirders in lieu of the pile trestle originally in place will be borne by the M.C.E. Plans are being prepared for the diversion of the M.C.E. main line atMontrose, and for the permanent steel structure to carry the tracks of that railwayover the completed canal. Owing to the desirability of connecting the power house with the M.C E.branch line to Niagara-on-the-Lake at Queenston, it was deemed necessary to con-struct a spur-line through Queenston along the foot of the escarpment to the PowerHouse site. Permission was secured from the Niagara Falls Parks Commission,Ordnance Branch of the Department of the Interior, Canada Steamship Lines, theVillage of Queenston, M.C.E. and International Eailway for the location alongthe Niagara Eiver. In order to dispose of the large amount of material necessary

to be excavated on the Power House site, and owing to the peculiar topographicalfeatures of Queenston, a proposal was made to the International Eailway to extendits line along Queen street to the Eavine, in which it was proposed to locate theConstruction Eailway. After considerable negotiations this agreement was effected,and the Commission will construct the roadbed on which the International Eailwayand the Commission will have joint running rights, giving the latter access tothe water front and to the Power House, in return for which the InternationalEailway has agreed to permit the disposal of all material on the Power House siteon lands owned by it at Queenston. Niagara Construction Railway During the year the. Commission decided to purchase two more electricallyoperated shovels which necessitated additional locomotives and sub-station equip-ment.
