By Charles Lutwidge Dodgson Reverend Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832-1898) is better known by his pseudonym, Lewis Carroll. He was an English writer, mathematician, Anglican deacon and photographer. His most famous story is that of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland published in 1865. This self portrait was probably taken in his room at Christ Church, Oxford. It was probably taken to check that his camera and chemicals were in good working order after being stored during the winter months. Dodgson made a portrait of John Ruskin who appears to be sitting in the same chair.
