The Aztecs created many zoomorphic sculptures, but the serpent is one of the most commonly depicted animals in Aztec sculpture. This sculpture of a coiled serpent from the British Museum is seen as one of the finest examples of the genre (National Gallery of Art: Art of Aztec Mexico: Treasures of Tenochtitlan, 1983).
