Oregonská stezka byla jednou z hlavních migračních suchozemských cest v Severní Americe. Začátek stezky byl u Independence na řece Missouri, dále postupovala rovinatou krajinou ke Skalnatým horám, kde procházela Jižním průsmykem, který je poměrně nízko položen.
