Ernst Jünger, (1895–1998) during World War I, wearing the House Order of Hohenzollern Knight's Cross with Swords (awarded 4 December 1917) and the Iron Cross ribbon bar (awarded January 1917).

This photograph was apparently taken in 1918, when Jünger was reconvalescing either from his wound of 4 December 1917 or that of 22 March 1918, but before 25 August 1918 (when he was again wounded and subsequenly received the Pour le Mérit)
