Edward „Ned” Kelly byl australský zbojník irského původu. Narodil se ve městě Beveridge v britské kolonii Victoria irskému trestanci původem z irského hrabství Tipperary, a australské matce s irskými kořeny. Když mu bylo 12 let, jeho otec zemřel po 6měsíčním pobytu ve vězení za nelegální vlastnictví volské kůže. Po obvinění z pokusu o vraždu policisty v domě Kellyho rodiny roku 1878 začali po Nedu Kellym a jeho přívržencích pátrat policisté s pomocí aboridžinských stopařů.
