First lighthouse at this location was in 1865 and the current light was built by the British in 1936.
It is located on a hilltop above the old Jaffa Port. It operated between 1865 and 1966, although it is still used as a daylight navigation aid.
It is a 10 meter (33ft) round cylindrical concrete tower. The original lantern and lens were transferred to the Ashdod lighthouse in 1966.
It is above the “Home of Simon the Tanner”, owned by the Armenian Zakkarian family for a number of generations.
