Professor of International Law

'When he was born in Split in 1909, the Dalmatian city was part of Austria-Hungary. In 1933 he graduated Doctor of Law at the University of Zagreb at the same time completing his studies in music at the Academy of Music. Legal practice followed. From 1942 Ivo Lapenna worked for the Resistance Forces until the end of the war. Thereafter he became professor of International Law and International Relations at Zagreb University until 1949, participating at the Peace Conference in Paris and for a time acting as council-advocate before the International Court of Justice at The Hague. In 1949, Ivo and his wife left Yugoslavia for France and came to London in 1951. From 1955 he has been at the School and from 1964 has held a position jointly with the School of Slavonic and East European Studies...' LSE Magazine, June 1977, No53, p.14
