This is the man behind the snowflake postage stamps you may have seen. The beautiful images started out as simply a way to study crystal structures. His talk touched on the dependence of showflake structure on temperature and humidity, some of the history of the research project, scientific motivations, and of course the popular side effects, which have led to several published books.
