Popis:
To the great surprise of the nuclear energy world, during a state visit by Khrushchev and Bulganin in 1956, Soviet physicist Igor Kurchatov offered to give a talk on their experiments in nuclear fusion. The event opened the way for the declassification of fusion research, and the presentation of many of these projects at the Second Atoms for Peace conference in September 1958. In the image, Khrushchev can be seen standing near the middle of the image. To his left (right in the image) is Kurchatov, with the prominent beard. To his left (right and down in the image) is Bulganin. Cockroft, with glasses, stands across from them while a presenter points to mockups of various materials being tested in the newly-opened DIDO reactor.
