A map of New Hampshire municipalities, color-coded to the results of the 2008 Republican Party New Hampshire presidential primaries, which were held on January 8, 2008. Arizona senator John McCain convincingly defeated frontrunning opponents Governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romney and Governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee to win his second New Hampshire primary. While Romney won the vote of southern Manchester voters, McCain won the vote of the majority of both urban and rural voters; though the results were not as strong as his resounding landslide victory against George W. Bush in 2000. Huckabee, who had won the Iowa caucuses a week before, failed to gain momentum into New Hampshire, resulting in a disappointing turnout; he won only two out of New Hampshire's >300 townships. Additionaly, Texas representative Ron Paul also gained a result in the primaries, winning a single township.
