This image, taken by the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on board ESA’s Mars Express spacecraft, is one of the highest-resolution pictures so far of the Martian moon Phobos.

Phobos is seen here by the HRSC nadir channel during Mars Express orbit 7926 on 10 March 2010. The image was enhanced photometrically to better bring out features in the less-illuminated part and has a resolution of about 9 m/pixel.

Launched on 2 June 2003, Mars Express was the first fully European mission to any planet. It is an exciting challenge for European technology and is playing a key role in an international exploration programme spanning two decades.
