Popis:
Quebec Monument at Studley Royal Park — a landscape garden park in North Yorkshire.
  • Garden feature known as the Quebec Monument which is dedicated to General Wolfe, who was successful in leading a British attack against the French fort at Quebec City on September 13 1759. The French were defeated, but Wolfe was shot in the chest and died just as the battle was won.

Wolfe's defeat of the French led to the British capture of the New France department of Canada, and his "hero's death" made him a legend in England at the time.

Nearby this monument is a small raised platform where a cannon was fired every year on the day of the battle to commemorate his victory.

Unfortunately this area is damp most of the year & consequently has become overgrown with comfrey & rushes, there is limited access to the public.
