Popis:
Richard Baxter (1615 - 1691) statue This statue by Sir Thomas Brock dates from 1875. Originally in the town centre, today it can be found in a small garden, sandwiched between the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal, the ring road and the Parish Church of St. Mary's.

Richard Baxter was a leading puritan of his time, and wrote many books which are still remembered today. He preached in Kidderminster for many years and the local Baxter College is named after him. After the restoration of the monarchy, he suffered some persecution, including a period of 18 months imprisonment following a trial by the notorious Judge Jeffreys.

In her book "Worcestershire, the Haunted County" (2007), Anne Bradford reports that there have been numerous sightings of the ghost of an old man in this area, that some individuals have identified as possibly being that of Baxter.
