Seaplane in flight
Christened 'Columbus', the aircraft shown was an Aeromarine model 75 flying boat. Each model 75 was a conversion of a Curtiss F-5L or Curtiss H-16 maritime patrol aircraft originally built for the U.S. Navy. As war surplus these aircraft were bought and remodeled, some in the company's own workshops.
During prohibition there were daily flights in the winter season to Bimini, the nearest "wet" spot to the U.S.This work is from the Florida Memory Project hosted at the State Archive of Florida, and is released to the public domain in the United States under the terms of Section 257.35(6), Florida Statutes.
