The Shakespeare Garden in Evanston (1915). It was established by the Garden Club of Evanston to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Shakespeare's death. It was designed to honor the fallen British allies in World War I and to celebrate the ties between the UK and the USA. It was designed by famed landscape architect Jens Jensen. The plants in the garden are those mentioned in Shakespeare's plays, which all happen to thrive in the Midwestern climate. The common hawthorns in the garden date back to the original founding of the garden. The fountain, designed by Hubert Burnham, was installed in 1929. It was dedicated to his mother, who had been the Chairman of the garden.
