Young woman wearing a checked dress, posing for a portrait, 1880-1890 Woman wearing a dress made of checked fabric, accessorised with leather gloves and a wide-brimmed hat trimmed with rows of narrow lace. The dress is tightly corseted-in at the waist, with buttons along the centre front and ruching at hip level, and is trimmed with a row of lace on the hem and sleeves.
