At Batum, thereis a little ship, perfect in every detail, commanded by a thirteen-year-oldboy, and operated by his crew of little boys. And all of them got theirpositions through competition. We noticed, though, in the children of the destroyed areas, a hauntedsadness in the eyes, and smiles that come very reluctantly.
