The U.S. Navy surveying ship USS Serrano (AGS-24) during survey operations in the Gulf of Siam, circa 1961. Serrano had been originally commissioned as the Abnaki-class fleet ocean tug USS Serrano (ATF-112) on 22 September 1944. On 31 May 1950, Serrano was decommissioned and berthed with the Pacific Reserve Fleet at San Francisco, California (USA). A year later, she was towed to San Diego where she remained until ordered activated and converted for hydrographic survey and oceanographic research work in 1960. With the designation AGS-24, she was recommissioned on 30 June 1960. She was finally decommissioned on 2 January 1970.
