Description: Photograph of the en:USS Holland (SS-1) underway. Holland VI, launched May 17, 1897, later renamed USS Holland (SS-1) after being sold to the US Navy for $150,000 by the Holland Torpedo Boat Company. From history.navy.mil: (Submarine Torpedo Boat # 1) Underway, circa 1900, probably soon after she was accepted by the Navy. Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives.

As the USS Holland was scrapped in 1913, this photograph must be of an age that would put it in the public domain regardless of whether it was taken by U.S. Navy personnel in the exercise of their duties.
