Hrabě z Essexu je anglický šlechtický titul, který byl poprvé udělen ve 12. století anglickým králem Štěpánem III. z Blois. Titul hraběte z Essexu byl v průběhu dějin udělen celkem devětkrát různým rodům, ve 13. a 14. století byla s titulem spojena navíc čestná dědičná hodnost vrchního velitele (konstábla) Anglického království. Známými nositeli titulu byli první ministr Jindřicha VIII. Thomas Cromwell nebo irský místokrál Robert Devereux, 2. hrabě z Essexu. Od roku 1661 užívá titul hrabat z Essexu rodina Capell. Arthur Capell, 1. hrabě z Essexu (1631–1683) byl vlivným politikem za vlády Karla II. a na hraběte z Essexu byl povýšen v roce 1661. Současným nositelem titulu je Paul de Vere Capell, 11. hrabě z Essexu (*1944). Devět hrabat z Essexu získalo nejvyšší anglické vyznamenání. .. pokračovat ve čtení
