C'est sur le Gymnote que furent experimentes tous les dispositifs employes aujour'hui a bord des sous-marins. Long de 17 metres et deplacant 30 tonneaux, il navigua le premier correctement sous l'eau, et parvint a lancer une torpille avec efficacite
