Polypore fungus, Doles Wood, Hants (2). This is the underside of the growth. It is about 150 mm wide and 100 mm high. It is also much harder than, say, a mushroom. It has been identified as 'Piptoporus betulinus'. More here http://www.mushroomexpert.com/piptoporus_betulinus.html
