(Until last year, when we had a specimen fromthe same source, we had never seen it in flower.The flowers, though belonging to a West IndianLeguminosas, are not papilionaceous, but would betaken by the mere lover of flowers, for a smallrhododendron. Indeed, at some little distance onemight imagine it to be a head of RhododendronCatawbiense. Rare flowers are not always beauti-ful, but the great beauty of this flower has addi-tional attractions, from the fact that the plant sorarely blossoms. Sir William Hooker, noticing a rare chance tosee it bloom in England, observed that the planthad a fashion of raising its leaflets, so as to coverthe flowers at certain periods of the day.
