La Salle Wilton rug - Bigelow-Hartford Carpet Co (25676145508)
A "La Salle" Wilton throw rug, on display as part of the "Jazz Age" exhibit at the Cleveland Museum of Art in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States.
This rug was manufactured by the Bigelow-Hartford Carpet Company, an American firm active from 1914 to 1929.
This wool rug, which is 27 by 54 inches in size, was likely manufactured in either Thompsonville, Connecticut, or Clinton, Massachusetts. It dates to 1928.
"La Salle" was the company's marketing name for this rug design, which is a flattened and abstract version of a traditional French floral wreath with a basket weaving pattern in the corners. It is called a Wilton rug because the texture and weave of the rug's fabric mimicked that of rugs made in Wilton, England -- a prominent weaving center in the United Kingdom.
